The Best Buzz-Free Booze

Whether you’re looking for a convincing drink to have in hand before you’re ready to share your good news, or just something festive to sip, we tried a lot of zero-proof beers, wines, spirits, and mixers to give you our favorite non-alcoholic options on the market.

Top Beers to Cheers

Safely toast to these buzz-less beers, which, by law, must contain less than 0.5% alcohol by volume. (Which also means they do still contain some alcohol, so be sure to consider that when sipping.)

Though O'Doul's or Clausthaler are often what you’ll find on menus, we’ve been happy to see a lot more options coming into the market lately. If your local liquor store doesn’t carry other options, you can often order cases direct from craft breweries online.

Suntory 'All-Free' is that beer you can sip on all day then drink all night with pizza and a movie. It’s magically “free” of calories and caffeine, too.

Athletic Brewing Co. 'Run Wild IPA' can actually substitute for the hoppy tang of an IPA.

Mikkeller Weird Weather IPA lets you partake in the adventure of tasting the newest craft brew at your local taphouse.

Best Ways to Fill a Wineglass

Let’s start with a disclaimer: grape juice is not wine. We know. It’s something we wine about (ha!). Though they share the same roots (ha ha!), we have yet to find a wine substitute that offers the complexity of wine or, at the very least, isn’t sickly sweet.

That said, here are a few options that may trick you into believing you’re pairing a glass of pinot with your pasta or sipping rosé on a sunny pool day.

Martinelli's sparkling apple juice is likely top-of-mind for every pregnancy party drink, but did you know they actually make over 10 flavors? We would know, we’ve been to their tasting room on California’s Central Coast. Try the drier and more Instagram-able “Sparkling Blush Juice” in lieu of champagne.

Navarro Vineyards uses the same grapes as their pinot noir wine to make a non-alcoholic grape juice that is much more delicate and drinkable than its supermarket cousins.

Rosé with Rosehip sparkling juice is an interesting combination of flavors reminiscent of mountain berries.

Noticeably absent here is Fre Wines — we tried several varieties and weren’t fans.

Best 0% Spirits

Get in the spirit with these non-alcoholic options that can sub in for favorite liquors. With their craft ingredients and beautiful bottles, you can still look forward to serving as a happy hour mixologist or sipping a nightcap on the rocks.

Seedlip non-alcoholic spirits aren’t aspiring to be any particular type of liquor, though they are a versatile mocktail ingredient and lovely to sip on their own. ‘Grove’ is a zesty citrus that we favored, though the aromatic “Spice” and herbaceous “Garden” are worthy selections as well.

Monday Gin is a good option for those who like the vegetal bite of real gin. (If that’s not you, skip this one.)

Ritual Tequila this alternative doesn’t really resemble its agave forefather, but it has a jalapeño-type burn that satisfies a favorite drink order: the spicy margarita.

Lyre's American Malt is the closest we’ve found to bourbon. Though it’s missing the satisfying burn of the real thing, Lyre’s does have the woodsy taste of a beverage left for a decade in an oak barrel.

Beckett's Cinnamon Whiskey makes us wonder why one might need a substitute for Fireball while on the wagon, but this one fits the bill.

Best Mocktail Mixers

Most cocktail mixers and garnishes are inherently alcohol-free, so the options for bartending a virgin anything is endless. That said, it’s much easier to let the pros do the work ahead of time. These are our favorite seasonal picks — most you can simply pour over ice and add a festive garnish.

WithCo cocktail mixers are all delicious (again, we did the hard work researching here) but their seasonal ‘Sweater Weather’ is a blend of cozy flavors that are delicious warmed (think hot toddy) or on ice.

Jack Rudy Cocktail Co. elevate the Shirley Temples of childhood with a craft grenadine that easily transforms into a mocktail with any flavor of sparkling water.

Topo Chico because this sparkling mineral water is the bubbliest of bubblies (though drink this with care if prone to heartburn)

Caged Heat this is a firey syrup that makes faux cocktails worthy of its name.

Cheers! What do you think of these options? Tip us off to new finds at hello@coconutbabyapp.com.
